Current and Recent Projects

Current Projects

Diablo II Clone

As part of the IGA Level 2 program, I am building a clone of Diablo II using Unity. I was fortunate enough to participate in this workshop for 5 weeks in both 2024 and 2025.

I am using mostly prebuilt assets to start but have a phase II goal to add my own pixel art assets.

Game Design + Instructional Design

During the Summer/Fall of 2024 I participated in the Online Learning Consortium workshop “Applying the Neuro, Cognitive, and Learning Sciences to Instructional Design“. During that experience I worked on an asynchronous course for IDs that brings game design methods and theories to instructional design.
Phase 2 of this project is to take the experience of the IDI workshop and attendance at DevLearn 2024 and revise and improve it using feedback from other educators and current trends and innovations.

Recent Projects

Instructional Design Institute

Starting in October 2024, I am participating in the Instructional Design Institute led by Luke Hobson. My goals for participating in this 7-week experience are:

  • Evaluate current workflows and project management techniques.
  • Gain additional insight into the Game Design and ID project
  • Meet other Instructional Designers
  • Refresh my knowledge of ID basics

Portfolio Building

Ironically, one of my projects has been around building portfolios. In 2020, I decided to redo my then current portfolio and decided to document my process. In complete transparency, it had to be put on hold last fall, but thanks to the recent progress I have made with it, the project is back on and close to completion!

Process: After doing some evaluation and planning for what this project would look like, I decided to put this out to my professional network. I sent out tweets and posts on LinkedIn and the eLearning community at Adobe. This gave me additional insight and helped focus how the next steps would look.

Normally I would now post screenshots or other content, but since it can be found on the eLearning site at Adobe, here are the first few posts for this project:

Course Assets Update

I facilitated a professional development course titled “Design Your Courses for Student Learning”. Having participated on the development team for the course, and later leading it, I naturally had some ideas for revisions based on student and colleague feedback. During the course, I led a live online session and had students and others in attendance (the session was open to anyone, not just students in the course) share resources. These are a portion of what I am working on updating.

Process: During my preparation to teach the course, I met with a colleague with whom I had worked with during the design and development phases. She had facilitated several instances of the course so had valuable experience to share.

I took notes from that conversation and from my evaluation of teaching the course and made a plan to revise some assets to better serve the needs of the professional educators in the course. I have started on a self-paced lesson developed using Captivate that was included in the course. My goals are to include some advanced actions using JavaScript and also to clean up the design of the courses template. The updated design will be shared here once completed.
